Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating) Problem
Sweating is an extremely effective and necessary mechanism for balancing the body temperature.
Sometimes, however, the regional sweat glands may function excessively, and we call such a condition ‘localized hyperhidrosis’ in dermatology. Excessive sweating, especially from the palms, soles and underarms, is an important dermatologic problem negatively affecting the quality of life in both women and men. Local injection of botulinum toxin is the most effective treatment procedure for this condition. Botulinum toxin, a bacterial toxin, considerably reduces sweating by limiting the activity of nerves that activate the sweat glands.
Treatment of Excessive Sweating with Botulinum Toxin
We most commonly use botulinum toxin for sweating treatment in the armpit area. Besides, it is a very effective technique for the palm and sole areas with sweating problem. In cases of facial sweating, unlike the aesthetic procedure, we inject it into the skin in form of mesotherapy technique, not into the muscle. It is a successful treatment technique for the treatment of excessive sweating in all of the injection areas.
Prior to botulinum injection for excessive sweating, we start with some tests to determine the sweating in the problem area. At the next stage, local anaesthetic creams are applied to the area and we perform the procedure after waiting 20 minutes. The procedure is performed in style of drug injection into the problem area with very fine needles. The effect of botulinum toxin treatment for sweating treatment lasts for about 6-8 months. During this period, both the amount of sweating reduces considerably and the patient gets rid of disturbing odour caused by sweating.
